1. Green Computing Consortium standard architecture
As a fully open industry, the computing industry needs to build a complete industry ecosystem that covers bottom-layer basic hardware, bottom-layer firmware, operating system, upper-layer application software, system integration, and integrated equipment to upper-layer system applications. Standardization is an important tool to continuously improve the computing industry ecosystem and develop the industry. It is an important foundation for the large-scale application of computing products. In 2020, a green computing technology standard architecture was developed, and core standards were developed for key links based on the architecture.
2. Green Computing Consortium Standards research and development
(1) System firmware standards: Technical Requirements for Basic Input and Output System (BIOS) of Green Computing Servers and Technical Requirements for System Management of Green Computing Servers will be completed and released by the end of 2020. The purpose of formulating the BIOS technical requirements for green computing servers is to unify the common requirements of the CPU, BIOS, OS, and device vendors of green computing servers so that the upstream and downstream of the industry have a "unified language" for interconnection and integration, thereby effectively improving the "unpacking consistency" experience and performance of green computing servers. Improve the compatibility and execution efficiency of green computing server systems; Develop the system management technical requirements for green computing servers. Improve the BMC function, improve the remote management and maintenance capability of the system, improve the maintenance efficiency, and be compatible with international standards to improve the competitiveness of green computing products. Based on the preceding technical specifications, the research on test methods and test tools, including test methods, test parameter configuration, and qualification determination, has been initiated and is planned to be completed in 2021.
By establishing the underlying software and hardware technical specifications and detection specifications for green computing servers, the alliance members can improve the "unpacking consistency" of server products and improve user experience. Unified detection capabilities of underlying software and hardware can provide detection services for quality control of green computing servers and provide technical support for large-scale application of green computing servers.
(2) Security and trustworthiness: The Technical Requirements for Green Computing Server Security and Trustworthiness will be completed and released by the end of 2020. Develop the security and trustworthiness technical requirements for green computing servers to ensure the trustworthiness of server products and the trustworthiness of the R&D process, and promote the entry of general-purpose servers into industries that have high security and trustworthiness requirements. Servers are the core foundation for ICT infrastructure construction. The core assets of countries, enterprises, and people are carried on servers. The trustworthiness of servers directly affects the trustworthiness of ICT infrastructure. To reduce the risk of attacks on ICT infrastructure, Mitigation of potential trusted threats to servers becomes critical. The development of Green Computing Server Security and Trustworthiness Technical Requirements incorporates research achievements and practices in the field of security and trustworthiness in the industry, facilitates the resolution of trustworthiness issues in server products and R&D, and reduces the risk of attacks on ICT infrastructure.
(3) Research and formulation of evaluation standards for typical application scenarios
Currently, hardware and software adaptation and compatibility of Arm-based servers from various vendors in China have been basically completed. To demonstrate the excellent performance of green computing servers represented by Arm architecture in typical application scenarios and accelerate the application process of green computing servers in typical application scenarios, Developed four typical application scenario evaluation standards: Server Application Scenario Performance Test Method Distributed Storage, Server Application Scenario Performance Test Method Big Data, Server Application Scenario Performance Test Method Web Application, and Server Application Scenario Performance Test Method High-Performance Computing. The evaluation specifications for typical application scenarios focus on the performance indicators of each typical scenario. The purpose is to urge related software and hardware vendors to jointly improve the performance of green computing servers to a certain level and build servers with stronger performance and better use.
(4) Convene seven standards review meeting
On November 11 and November 12, 2020, Green Computing Consortium (GCC) organized Performance Test Methods for Server Application Scenarios Distributed Storage, Performance Test Methods for Server Application Scenarios Big Data, Performance Test Methods for Server Application Scenarios Web Application, and Performance Test Methods for Server Application Scenarios High-Performance Computing. The review meeting of seven standards, Technical Requirements for Input and Output System of Green Computing Servers, Technical Requirements for System Management of Green Computing Servers, and Technical Requirements for Trustworthiness of Green Computing Servers, was successfully held in Beijing.
In this review meeting, the review expert group listened carefully to the report on the work of the seven standards and carefully examined the text content of the drafts of the seven standards. The expert group highly appraised the seven standards and put forward some suggestions for optimization and improvement. Each standard drafting team optimized the standard content based on the expert group's comments and submitted it to the Alliance for approval according to the process. The standard was officially released at the Green Computing Industry Summit on November 26, 2020.
3. Arm Server AC Activity
The Standardization and Evaluation Working Group attends the regular meetings of Arm Server AC. First, in order to track the work and progress of standardization abroad, obtain advanced technology experience; The second is to collect relevant opinions and suggestions from GCC member units, organize and analyze the opinions and suggestions, and then submit them to the meeting for discussion, so as to achieve the goal of maintaining smooth international communication channels, promoting the development and implementation of alliance standards, accelerating the maturity of domestic technical standards, and promoting global technology sharing and collaborative progress.
4. Group standard building
After communication and coordination with China Electronic Standardization Association, the Institute of Electronic Standardization is the centralized unit of green computing standards. The Alliance standards prepared by Green Alliance can be converted into official group standards of China Electronic Standardization Association synchronously or in time, and uploaded to the website of the State Beacon Commission for industry users to query and use.
